An Antique Land

An Antique Land

A Visual Memoir of Ladakh

Sugato Mukherjee’s journey into the inner crevices of Ladakh assumes infinite patterns, intertwined in its bleak, forbidding landscapes and an austere, monastic flow of life. Beyond its primal ruggedness, this antique terrain lets him into its sublime, fragile interiors; and in those depths, he begins his quest for his own share of divine emptiness.

Sugato Mukherjee
Sugato Mukherjee grew up in the transitional period of the nineties when the multidimensional layers of India became more apparent than ever. Based in Calcutta, he often takes time off his professional schedule to lyrically document those visual textures, both on and off the beaten tracks. An alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, his interests include finance, anthropology, comparative religion and Indian classical music, not necessarily in that order. Presently, he is working on his second book and his first exhibition abroad.
